Cinnamon Roll Cruffins

Description

This Cinnamon Roll Cruffin recipe combines the flaky goodness of croissants and muffins, filled with warm cinnamon roll filling and topped with a caramel apple drizzle. It’s a delightful treat perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted (plus more for greasing)
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup chopped apples (preferably Granny Smith)
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease your muffin tin with butter or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the melted butter, milk, and vanilla extract. Pour this mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  4. In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and cinnamon together. Set aside.
  5. On a floured surface, roll out the dough into a rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick. Brush the surface with softened butter, then sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the dough.
  6. Starting from one long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Slice the log into 12 equal pieces. Take each piece and press it down slightly before placing it in the muffin tin, standing upright.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  8. While the cruffins are baking, toss the chopped apples in lemon juice. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the apples and caramel sauce. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until the apples start to soften.
  9. Once the cruffins are done, allow them to cool in the tin for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack. Drizzle the caramel apple mixture over the top.

Notes

For a quicker option, you can use store-bought puff pastry instead of making the dough from scratch.
