Description

These Cinnamon Sugar Apple Fries with Caramel Dip are a delightful treat that combines the sweetness of apples with a crispy coating and a rich caramel dip. Perfect for any occasion, they are quick and easy to make, making them a crowd-pleaser for both kids and adults.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 medium apples, firm and tart (like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), cored and cut into fry shapes
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon, divided
  • 1/2 cup sugar, divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk (or dairy-free alternative)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
  • 1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 tablespoon heavy cream (or milk for a lighter option)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Apples: Start by coring and slicing your apples into fry shapes. Aim for about 1/4 inch thick to ensure they cook evenly.
  2. Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, sugar, and salt until well combined.
  3. Mix the Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, combine the milk and vanilla extract. Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until a smooth batter forms.
  4. Heat the Oil: In a frying pan or deep fryer, heat about 2 inches of oil over medium heat. You can test the temperature by dropping in a small amount of batter; if it bubbles and rises, it’s ready!
  5. Coat the Apple Fries: Dip each apple fry into the batter, allowing any excess to drip off. Carefully place them in the hot oil.
  6. Fry the Apple Fries: Fry the apple fries in batches, cooking for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Make sure not to overcrowd the pan!
  7. Drain and Coat: Once golden, use a slotted spoon to remove the fries and transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels. While they’re still warm, toss them in a mixture of the remaining sugar and cinnamon.
  8. Prepare the Caramel Dip: In a small saucepan over low heat, warm the caramel sauce and stir in the heavy cream until smooth and well combined.
  9. Serve: Serve the warm apple fries with the caramel dip on the side. Enjoy!

Notes

For a healthier option, consider baking the apple fries instead of frying them.
