Description

The Ultimate Caramel Pecan Texas Tornado Cake is a comforting dessert with moist layers, rich caramel flavor, and crunchy pecans. It’s easy to make and perfect for impressing guests at any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (sifted)
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped pecans (toasted for extra flavor)
  • 1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour your two 9-inch round cake pans.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  4. In another bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar together with an electric mixer until it’s light and fluffy (about 3-4 minutes).
  5. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  6. Gradually add the dry mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk. Start and end with the dry ingredients. Stir in the vanilla extract until just combined.
  7. Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared pans.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Once baked, remove from the oven and allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Once cooled, place one cake layer on a serving plate. Drizzle with half of the caramel sauce and sprinkle half of the toasted pecans on top. Place the second layer on top and repeat the process with the remaining caramel and pecans.

Notes

For a deeper caramel flavor, substitute granulated sugar with brown sugar. Use gluten-free flour for a gluten-free version.
